Some teaching about visualisation and using your imagination is wrong.
It assumes that if we ask God to fill our imaginations, then he will.
But he is Lord, and doesn’t always obey our orders!
Also, our imaginations can be filled by our own fantasties, or by the enemy, too.
Yes, Father God gave us creative imaginations when he made us in his image. But they are not hotlines to heaven.
Genesis 8:21 says: ‘The imagination of man’s heart [is] evil from his youth …’ Most of us can relate to that, if we’re honest.
Our imaginations only become more reliable when we allow God to renew our minds, and play our parts by daily capturing ungodly thoughts for Jesus (2 Cor 10:5).
And even then, we may get things wrong.
Eve led a sinless life in a perfect environment, but she still imagined how nice that fruit would taste – and ended up disobeying God’s orders.
So, yes – expect God to engage with you through your imagination. But test everything against scripture and with other people.
