Picture of windswept flowers in a fieldThis picture hangs in my lounge.  A windswept field, bursting with colourful flowers. Untamed, with storm clouds above.

I like it, because it reflects my soul.

Proverbs 21:4 says haughty eyes and a proud heart are the unploughed field of the wicked.

I’m prone to both, and so I frequently ask God to plough my field. After all, the proverb says that unploughed land leads to sin. Not good.

So, if you see me looking a mess, don’t worry. God’s got his plough out again!

He cuts deep to soften my heart. And he uses the storms to test me and the wind of the Spirit to bring conviction, healing and comfort.

Unploughed fields sometimes look quite tidy. But the surface is hard. That’s why Hosea calls us to break up our fallow ground.

The difference between the words soil and soul is i. For me, ‘I’ is usually the problem. Maybe it’s the same for you. So many things can harden our hearts.

How’s your soil today?  Is it hard and prone to sin? You can pray with me about it by clicking here

It’d be great if you can join me.
