I’ve seen God instantly heal addicts many times over the years.
But sometimes he doesn’t.
And during these dark times, people need reassuring that he has not forgotten them.
That he loves them just the same. And that he never abandons them, even if others do.
These scriptures are also vital on the path to freedom.
Titus 2:12 says: ‘The grace of God teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions.’
This verse shows that people have to learn to say no and that God’s grace will teach them how.
Philippians 2:13 says: ‘God is working in you to make you willing and able to obey him.’
It’s easy to tell an addict: ‘Use your will.’ But some people need God’s work inside them to make them willing and able.
This prayer can also help: ‘Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and make me willing to obey you.’ (Ps 51:12).
Father can make an addict willing to obey if they stay hungry for him.
Taken together, these verses show that God does more for an addict than we sometimes realise.
