I think God laughs at our efforts to live longer.

So many Christians use faddy diets, relentless fitness regimes and expensive supplements.

It often comes from worry. But Jesus said in Luke 12:25: ‘Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?’

People say: ‘Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit’ (1 Cor 6:19). But Paul was referring to sexual immorality, not faddy diets.

The Lord has his own live-longer regime. And it doesn’t even mention food or exercise.  See details

Proverbs 3:2 says that you will prolong your life for many years if you remember his teaching and keep his commands.

And Proverbs 4:10 promises you many years if you accept what he says.

Then there’s Exodus 20:12 which says: ‘Honour your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.’

No fitness regime will help if you dishonour your parents.

A healthy lifestyle is good if you do it for the right reasons. But beware new age philosophies that seduce us into worshiping our own bodies.

Paul told Timothy (1 Timothy 4:8): ‘Physical exercise is of limited value, but godliness is valuable in every way.’

He also warned about doctrines of demons that compel people to … ‘abstain from certain foods’ (1 Tim 4:3). That can so often be the source of philosophies like veganism.

Abstaining from food-related deception and new age self-improvement will give you a longer life than any kind of diet or fitness regime.
